Valle Verde Early College High School (VVECHS) is a public high school in a formal educational partnership with El Paso Community College (EPCC). Located on the main campus of EPCC, VVECHS opened in 2007 and graduated its first cohort in 2011. Currently, the total enrollment is 298 for grades 9-12 with a senior class of 78 students.
Previously, Valle Verde ECHS was recognized as an Apple Distinguished School by Apple, a Demonstration Early High School by Texas Education Agency, an AVID Site of Distinction, a 2018-2019 Texas Honor Roll School, one of America’s Best High Schools by US News and World Report, and one of America’s Best High Schools serving low-income students by Newsweek Magazine. Since 2016, and again in 2024, US News and World Report and Newsweek ranked Valle Verde ECHS as the top Public High School in El Paso, Texas. Valle Verde is currently ranked #1 in the Ysleta Independent School District, #1 in El Paso, #35 in the state of Texas and #241 in the nation. Data used for ranking is from the 2021-2022 school year. Click here to learn more about how high schools are ranked. In 2017, Valle Verde ECHS was also recognized as the first National Blue Ribbon School in YISD in 10 years.
The uniqueness of the school requires a four-year commitment from students in order to graduate with a Distinguished Achievement Plan High School Diploma and an Associate degree from EPCC. In four years, students participate in a rigorous high school curriculum and earn over 60 college credit hours, preparing them for the demands of a competitive college/ university in the following years. Our students are truly immersed in the college culture, as they take at least 15 college classes at El Paso Community College. An emphasis is also placed on community service, with 80 hours required for graduation and participation in extra-curricular activities that focus on leadership, academics, and/or the fine arts. VVECHS has 35 clubs and organizations for its students to join and in 2015, Valle Verde added it’s first UIL sport: cross-country.
Upon graduation, our students continue on to some of the most successful colleges and universities in Texas and United States. From UTEP, UT Austin and Rice to MIT, Columbia, Cornell, Swarthmore, and Smith, Valle Verde ECHS graduates continue their educational success that they began in high school. Valle Verde students truly believe with great opportunity comes great responsibility. They live up to that responsibility by valuing the importance of education and working to the best of their ability every single day.
